PLAYER↴ Name: Swirl Contact: Plurk / Discord / journal PM Other Characters: Papyrus CHARACTER↴ Character Name: Beauregard Age: 22/23ish Species: Human Canon: Critical Role: Campaign 2 Canon Point: While blacked out after the drinking contest in Hupperdook (S2:E24, The Hour of Honor) Character Info: Wiki Personality: Beauregard is commonly called a "disaster lesbian" by fandom, due to her frequent (bad) flirting with women, and the ways she's something of a disaster when she joins the people who'll become her friends and traveling companions. A mercenary who prefers to do things for the payoff, whose hard drinking, aggressive demeanor, and overall aesthetic (days' old makeup, baggy clothing, undercut, and piercings) don't help her fit in with upper society. She's somewhere between muscle and brains, solving problems with her staff - be it bashing people in combat, or using it as leverage for puzzles in ruins and caves. She knows to pick her battles, that sometimes she needs to lay low or run... But, in the end, she's an involuntary monk - trained in physical (and mental) disciplines after being forced into the monastery - who escaped that life and went on the run from a secret society that specializes in collecting knowledge... like where people are and what they're up to. (It didn't work for long). Her best, most-practiced skills are in hurting and breaking, be it things or people, and that's something of a crack in her self confidence. Sure, she can move like the wind, catch arrows in midair, and punch people aplenty. And yeah, she can lie and placate her way into a rebel group's trust, or bluff her way into working as a housekeeper in order to spy on the lord and lady of the house. But she's spent much of her life surrounded by people disapproving and criticizing her, and she fell into sullen resentment, passive aggressively retaliating with sabotage and theft. Beau expects to be screwed over, and her usual demeanor is so sardonic and antagonistic that it makes some of the very enemies she expects. Once she's with people who offer support and validation, even friendship, she starts fishing for more and indirectly asking for help. Between checking whether she looks as buff and good as she'd like to think, or accepting advice on how to get better at socializing, or even liking someone after they beat her up because she can tell she'll improve from their training - after they've praised the necessity of traits she's used to being criticized for. Beau has sought belonging and worth, and it's in looking outside that she learns what to start nurturing in herself. There's something about leaving things better than she found that that's strange to her, but increasingly appealing, and she experiences more of it as the Mighty Nein start doing heroic deeds like rescuing people and slaying monsters. Beau asks blunt questions of nearly everyone, pressing when she doesn't like the answers, and generally avoids answering questions. Especially with questions about what others should do - she hates anyone deciding what others should do. Whether it's an adult controlling a young girl, a scruffy wizard keeping secrets and making decisions about the world, or the question of whether to sabotage a politician's position. And there's hypocrisy in her dislike of control - Beau's perfectly willing to decide to ruin others' lives because she dislikes them, stealing mail and telling lies or even killing them if need be. But there's a difference between a lone monk - or a group of travelers - and the systemic control via fear and ignorance that an institution can cause, and that difference is important to her. Even once she accepts a greater degree of involvement in the order that trained her, she remains skeptical of its purpose as a group that provides a check on other systems. Abilities: Beau is a martial artist, skilled in beating the crap out of people with the aid of ki and in-combat analysis. She fights without armor, relying on environmental awareness to evade and deflect mundane attacks - and good reflexes to try dodging more magical things. It works sometimes, her reflexes are good enough to sometimes catch bolts/arrows/etc, and even fling them as weapons in the heat of combat. Her ki is an internal flow of energy harnessed through long training, not quite magic but almost supernatural, and can be used for effects like especially swift movement, uncanny jumping and falling, and sometimes knocking her targets unconscious. Her recent training has taught her to glean information from how her enemies react to blows; when she hits them quickly enough, she can deduce things about their nature, their strengths and their weaknesses. On the less combative side, Beau has experience in spywork and criminal ventures, with a passing familiarity in picking locks, smuggling goods, and infiltrating groups to gather information. She's something of a disaster with compliments and flirting, and only recently striving to improve under the influence and example of her allies (and friends). CARNIVAL↴ Soul Colour: #0047ab (Dark Blue) Ideal Jobs: Militia, Skullduggery Relevant Experience: As a D&D adventurer and part-time smuggler, Beau's currently making a living by recovering things, stealing things, and killing monsters and sometimes people. Good at moving quickly, so-so at hiding and evasion, terrible at talking with people.
